BALCO committed to community development endeavours: Lakhan Lal Dewangan

Balconagar, July 10, 2026: Bharat Aluminium Company Limited, a unit of Vedanta Aluminium Metal Limited, reinforced its commitment to community development by inaugurating a newly constructed community building in Sonpuri Panchayat and performing the foundation stone-laying ceremony of a new community building at Padimar under its community development initiative.
The inauguration ceremony was graced by Mr. Lakhan Lal Dewangan, Hon’ble Minister of Commerce & Industry, Public Enterprises, Commercial Taxes (Excise) and Labour, Government of Chhattisgarh, along with Mr. Captain Dhananjay Mishra (Chief Corporate Affairs & Administration Officer, BALCO). Smt. Sanju Devi Rajput (Mayor, Korba), Mr. Jai Rathore, (President, Balconagar Kannaujia Rathore Samaj), Councillors Mr. Hitanand Agrawal and Mr. Rajat Prasad Khute, along with local public representatives, BALCO officials and members of the community, also graced the occasion.
The newly constructed community building at Sonpuri Panchayat will serve as a shared public space for social gatherings, cultural programmes, community meetings and other developmental activities, strengthening community engagement and creating opportunities for collective participation. The foundation stone-laying ceremony at Padimar marked another step towards expanding essential public infrastructure in the region and improving access to community facilities for residents supporting the socio-economic development in the region.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Lakhan Lal Dewangan appreciated BALCO’s continued contribution to regional development and said, “BALCO is not limited to industrial production but is committed to fulfilling its social responsibilities with equal dedication. Community infrastructure such as these newly constructed buildings will serve as important centers for social gatherings, community engagement and village development. Through sustained interventions in education, women empowerment, roads, drinking water, electricity and employment, BALCO continues to improve the quality of life in neighboring communities. This partnership between industry and society is accelerating the development of the Korba region. I urge the villagers to consider this community building as their own asset, preserve it with care and utilize it for the holistic development of the village.”
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Rajesh Kumar Singh said, “I am happy that BALCO is part of the community’s development journey through healthcare, education, livelihoods and infrastructure development. As we create and enhance shared public spaces in the vicinity, we aim to strengthen social connections and contribute to the community’s socio-cultural progress.”
Infrastructure development continues to be one of the key pillars of BALCO’s community development initiatives. Over the last three years, the company has developed more than 85 community infrastructure assets, including roads, community buildings, children’s parks, and the renovation of Anganwadi centres and government schools, benefiting more than 20,600 people across 20 villages.
In the last two months alone, BALCO has strengthened community infrastructure through the inauguration of the Nehru Nagar Community Hall, development of Jubilee Park at the Civic Centre in Balconagar, establishment of Smriti Udyan, and now the community infrastructure projects at Sonpuri and Padimar. Through sustained investments in public infrastructure, the company continues to create shared spaces that foster community participation, improve access to essential facilities and contribute to the long-term socio-economic development of the region.
